Well taking a dip in living standards could mean driving a more economical car, car-sharing, turning the heating down a degree, consuming locally-produced seasonal food instead of apples in June from the other side of the world, having windows that open to cut down on the aircon, getting the government to insulate all our houses instead of paying a fortune to already-rich Tory landowners to put up ugly and inefficient windmills...a dip, eh?
