I guess this has got nothing to do with

"Sweetly wild, sweetly wild,
The scenes that charmed me when a child."

That's a poem by Lydia Huntley Sigourney, published in the 1800's (she was a Connecticut native). That poem got around, it was in lots of anthologies. Maybe it was set to music but I can't locate a setting.
