Well lessee............Its stood the test of time, in a manner of speaking...........known and sung by lots of people.........has undergone the oral/aural process and assorted changes which have personalized it but left it basically intact..............unknown authorship with no obvious motivation for financial gain or recognition.........yeah, its a folk song.
