"I had a quick look at Pinta, but clicking on the Windows download page, Chrome advises me:

Deceptive site ahead

Attackers on github-production-release-asset-2e65be.s3.amazonaws.com may trick you into doing something dangerous like installing software or revealing your personal information (for example, passwords, phone numbers or credit cards).

And whilst I'm not gullible enough to give up any of the above, I'm somewhat wary."

I'm not surprised Windows warns people off downloading free software. If everyone did it they'd go broke.

On Linux it's not such a problem. There is a facility called the software manager. Anything this downloads is safe. I downloaded Pinta that way with no problems.

I've been doing a lot of downloading recently some of it stuff the software manager doesn't do. I've managed to get most of EasyABC working and needed to get several files downloaded. The thing that really annoys me is the sites who offer you one program but if you press the download button they send you something else. You really have to read the small print. I would have thought that if your anti-virus and anti-malware stuff is good you should be OK.
