In college I sustained a 7 inch surface wound from a sabre despite a full regulation armored suit and mask. Sharp or not, Sabers are heavy percussive and dangerous.

Some X game innovators have a knack for combining sports to create something really fresh and exciting;

Cross country bowling, Sabre badminton, Interstate wheel chair rallies, Poker skydiving and my favorite, Tour de Darts (darts vs. bikes) -fan participation is terrific.
