Thread Name: Lyr Req: Anne Wiseman's lifeboat tragedy song
Subject: Lyr Req: Anne Wiseman's lifeboat tragedy song
The late Anne Darby (Wiseman) wrote a song about a lifeboat disaster and sang it often around 1979-80 at least. If anybody has the lyrics or better still a recording of her singing it, I'd be very grateful.

I believe it was based on a true incident in which more lifeboat men were drowned than sailors rescued ("a strange kind of bargain", the song observed). The chorus went something very like this:

"If the sea wants you, she'll have you
Don't be afraid lads, you'll feel no pain
It's only the women who hurt, they can't choose
Which men go out, and which come back again."

Thanks.
