Found this thread while looking up info on this song. I have an alt theory that it is about the Faery Queen Clíodhna. She is considered a banshee, which is why the song mentions the banshee and the fairy hill and hawthorn tree. Hawthorn has long been associated with a place to meet the faery queen. Not sure if it is accurate though.
