Forms found in the DT and Forum include "rod...reel", "frock...wheel", "flax...wheel", "rock...reel" and "rack...reel". Of these, "rock" belongs to the earliest example, provided by Bruce Olson, from an English broadside of around 1660; it seems to have been a Scottish song at that time.
