Concerning the colour of Cockades as discussed in this thread - we have heard that there are Both - Blue and White used in collected songs.

There is also a version - collected by Baring-Gould from Robert Hard at South Brent, Devon in 1889 - where the Cockade is "Brave" - not coloured at all...so sing what you are comfortable with!!
