The Italian trains in Eritrea did not run on time. In fact from 1942 until the mid nineties they did not run at all between Asmara and Massawa. The original track construction is some feat of engineering. Last time I saw it they had russian trucks running on the last bit of track around the harbour in Massawa. I believe they run a few tourist trains now.
