How can I friendship show, to one I care
For more than I have earned? She remains muse,
Yet I cannot now hear her dreams, nor share
More than concern: Of what she might refuse
I dare not seek. If I might bright smile win,
I would be satisfied to only hold
Past memories: Not dreams, as I would spin
Imagined touch into hopes far too bold.
I wish her only well, and that the night
Might remain sorrow-free, and days be spent
Without regret. Yet, have I still the right
To verses weave, much less that words be sent?
A decade does not alter my desire,
And dream of muse will still my verse inspire.
