Thread Name: How Many Guitars...Is Enough??
Subject: RE: How Many Guitars...Is Enough??
I like different tones for recording, performance, and general self amusement. Acoustic 6 (various sizes) and 12 strings, nylon, resonator (wood and steel body), electric (solid, hollow, humbucker, singlecoil), archtop, lapsteel (Weissenborn and electric), bass (4 and 5 strings, and acoustic), tenor, guit-jo, never mind all the banjos, mandolins, ukuleles, etc. I also teach several of those.

Enough depends on the moment, but like a mechanic, having the right tool for the job is important. Many in my list have back-ups of similar design, maybe for the convenience of alternate tunings, or just because I like a particular guitar. So yeah, maybe I have a couple more steel string acoustics than I need or could get away with, and maybe an electric or two.

I DO have my "cold dead hands" guitar, the last one I will ever release before I die and hopefully not until I do. It's a simple all solid rosewood/spruce acoustic, but in the meantime I will have my tools.
