Thread Name: Lyr Req: Bayberry Candles (Irish Christmas song?)
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bayberry Candles (Irish Christmas song?)
Bayberries are a shrub that grows wild along the New England shoreline and have berries which form a waxy coating in the fall. The colonists gathered them to make candles which have a distinctive fragrance, probably useful as an insect repellent.

I have never heard of them in an Irish context.
