The tune is pretty much the same one sued in the Fletcher Henderson/Bessie Smith "Send Me to the Lectric Chair" of 1927--and, really, it's about the same tune as "Ja-Da" by James Reese Europe, recorded by 1919. (And Al Hurt a whole lot later.) Europe may have written it, but it may go well back into ragtime vaudeville.
