Or, let's put it another way. When the great library was built in Alexandria I am sure there were some naysayers who said that the money could be better spent feeding the starving peoples of Egypt. Yet by building it the great thinkers of the time were encouraged to lay the foundations of modern science and medicine, giving unaccountably greater benefits than if the money had been spent on extending the lives of a handful of people. May sound harsh but the good of the many must come first.
