That's all true, Dave, but is there indeed any planet suitable for colonisation within a reasonable distance?
I strongly suspect the motive behind this rocket thing is a speculative eye on charging vast sums to wealthy adventurers to experience space travel in large numbers.
And yes, 'the poor are always with us' just as long as money which would help them is squandered on jaunts into space.
