What I hear about Louisiana,
where the nutria have been present for years,
is that they have given up
on extermination:
there is just too much that is wetlands,
and the nutria are too deeply entrenched there.
If they tried to eradicate Louisiana nutria,
they would end up eradicating the wetlands along with them.   

Which does not bode well for California.
