I recall someone who was owned by a Border Terrier,
admitting that the dog was NOT diligent about protecting the premises from strangers,
because the dog was too sociable and loved people too much.

Once when there were uniformed strangers performing a task of some kind,
they laughed about the dog:
"If we had been burgling the house,
the dog would have offered us tea
and shown us where to find the silver..."
