He did a solo gig in the back room of the Tree Inn Folk Club one night in the early '90s. I suppose there must have been about 30 of us there. I got him to play The Maid Of Ballingarry/Stack Of Barley, a set that was on The Fire Aflame album. As a harmonica player I couldn't get my head round that air but I must have played "his version" of the hornpipe a thousand times since (though you know how it goes...). I remember also a cracking version of Jenny's Wedding, one of those damned awkward ones with both Cs and C sharps! He was a wicked whistle player too. And a lovely, reserved, self-effacing man. 72 is no age these days.
