Would civilization advance further without WD-40, Duct Tape, White Plastic Pails, or the Drywall Screw?

Cod fisherman use WD-40 to juice up their jigs when they are jigging for Cod on excursion boats. Can't use it on American waterways tho, petro distillates leave a sheen on the water and thats illegal with a hefty fine.
