Racking my brain, there was a cat we took in back when we were in Kent in the 70s but my mate "Snotcat" or Worthy as he was called by Pip was the adult stray I really remember. He was huge and long haired but mostly used to manage the fur himself.

When he first settled with us, he would cower at a had coming towards him but he mostly got over that, poor old thing really but he could (if we were not careful) dominate our other neutered tom...

Only had him about 4 years. He had cat aids, almost certainly from a now gone feral community before he settled here. But, yes as with your cat, you believe you've given them some quality of life over the period you had them.

Couldn't see that working with PussPuss though. He's the born and bred wild feral type that few are ever able to make friends with.
