Catching up
"Should we have intervened more in that civil war?"
A Civil War would never have taken place had the West (or preferably the UN) intervened place when Assad started massacring his own people - Homs being a prime case for intervention
Instead, we (Britain) supplied riot control equipment to suppress the Arab Spring protests (from which the Civil War emerged) and probably licensed the sale of sniper bullets that trained the snipers that were taking bets on who could kill a woman and a child with one bullet on the streets of Homs
When the gas was first used on Civilians it was revealed that it was possibly British Chemicals that helped Assad create a stockpile of those weapons
Our Government ignored the pleas of deserting Syrian politicians and military figures who requested that Britain should use her influence to stop Assad's gallop or, failing that, should seize his millions in British banks and the property he owned in London
Throughout the Homs massacre, Assad's gofer brother-in-law went in and out of London doing his master's bidding as if he was shopping at Harrods - that money and property remains untouched
When all this is over and the bodies are being counted, it needs to be remembered that British and other "decent, democratic" countries share the responsibility for their demise
That goes for the victims of Isis, a group of isolated who would have remained that way until Syria enabled them to get their to in the international door
Talk about bolting horses and unlocked stable doors
This should have been a clear enough warning of THINGS to COME
