Yeah.........................Sorrowfully most of the sales training and motivational stuff is on that level you describe Rick. Kat and Steve both talk of other things and those are far more important as your Dad knew. Selling is not a slimy and sleazy profession as guys like Bud tend to lead us to believe. Product knowledge, especially with focus on benefits and not features, listening for comprehension and not speed, and most importantly, the ability to ask open ended questions and CONTROL the conversation that way (through questions, not statements), are the real skills that the best have learned. Combine that with the precious ability to shut the fuck up and not talk your way OUT of the sale, and you too can do the job.
