Sonnet 16/05/18                      MCLXV


How can I write words worth a muse’s smile,
When I’ve not seen her for some time? I fear
That I repeat these lines, without muse near
To guide verse on. Can I hope to find new
Image in darkness? Without light as true
As I see in her eyes, how will I show
What muse means to my heart, or let muse know
That I find absence to be heart’s hope’s trial?
Can vision of muse serve to show a part
Of what is found in eyes: A light so pure
That verse is formed in mind? I must verse write
Of hopes and dream, but will words in my heart
Find path to page, without light to insure
The way? Can soul speak, with muse out of sight?
