For those who don't know what a mangle is, here it is. My second washing machine was a top-loader that wheeled up and attached by a hose to the hot tap to pour in the water, then you added detergent and clothes and closed the lid down and it chugged for half an hour or so, filling up the flat with suds-smelling steam. Then you took out the clothes into a basin and put the hose (or another?) into the sink to pump the water out, and filled it again with rinsing water; clothes out again and drain again, and finally you'd run the clothes through the mangle (aka wringer) to half-dry them before hanging them up to steam and drip and fill the flat with humid, mould-inducing steam.

This is why you don't put your mickey or any other part of you in a mangle
