Living basically on the Scioto River, I can vouch for the fact it runs through Ohio and has some beautiful scenery and some really awful spots as well. It is west of me here and joins with the Olentangy in Columbus. The river bisects the southern half of the state (E/W) and enters the Ohio at Portsmouth.

I think the name is actually Mingo, an Iroquois tribe that lived along the Ohio and Scioto Rivers whose most famous chief was Logan and tried for years to maintain a peace.
