Thread Name: International football songs
Subject: RE: International football songs
A slight drift from "international" football songs but it's interesting to observe the differences between the football terrace songs of 40+ years ago and the current modern chants.
As a keen, rosy-cheeked boy I supported my home team of Middlesbrough learning the supporter-clubs songs as we cheered our heroes.
There was a little needle to the banter between opposing fans but rarely any more than that and mostly good-humoured, in fact the supporters club was called the "Ayresome Angels", named after our then home ground, Ayresome Park, and we had a particular favourite song:
"Hello, hello, they call us Middlesbrough
Hello, hello, they call us Middlesbrough
We are the Ayresome Angels and we never miss a match
We all follow the'Boro"

Not very imaginative but indicative of the innocence of the times.
Can you imagine that being sung out today???

The modern game doesn't go in for songs so much, with the exception of the very present "It's coming home", but the terrace chants occassionally have some brilliant humour to them.
