Folk songs are not unique in being not created for profit .Icould give you examples of country songs that were not produced for profit, you may find this hard to believe but it happens to be true, blackwaters, jean ritchie,dark as a dungeon merle travis.and Johnny Paycheck became one of the strongest voices for labor unions with his song “Take This Job And Shove It,” even showing up to labor protests and defiantly singing the song in support of the unionizers. Loretta Lynn’s “The Pill” and “Rated X” supported sexual freedom for women.
