I’m thinking of putting this song into our repertoire for several reasons, so of course I came here for the words.

I was at a festival a few years back where John Conolly announced to the audience that he had written a new chorus because the original chorus was “weak”, and instructed everyone that from then on they should only sing the new version. Here he is singing it.

In my opinion people should still be free to sing whichever version they chose.

I intend to sing the original version, and would refer those who don’t like it to the late Mr Capstick’s remarks as related by Mr Conolly.
