If one has a serviceable mosquito net in the Tropics, one can leave the window/s open at night. Most windows have screening or bars on them anyway. A single cotton sheet is the only covering needed (or nothing at all!) No need for air con.

The only thing I was careful about was not getting sunburnt - very dodgy for a white person.
