Thread Name: earliest recordings of Irish singers?
Subject: RE: earliest recordings of Irish singers?
The thing about the old Folklore commission cylinders, they were used for transcription, the collector sent them back to HQ in Dublin, once the transcription was done the wax was scraped and made ready for re-use before returning the cylinders to the collector in the field. This was still th practice when Seamus Ennis was working for them in the 1940s. I am not sure any recordings were kept at all.
