Nothing wrong with adding a verse to a composed song as long as you admit when questioned, your honour... done it many a time.

Re Thompson post- the song may have US/UK influences but the popular version was certainly put together by Sean McCarthy- he told me so at his excellent folk club near Clapham Junction- I remember one lovely night there with Jo Ann Kelly as the guest, about 1965?
