I'm not sure that the ukelele is well-suited to single-line playing generally - there is little volume and virtually no sustain. I think there's a good reason why the "traditional" approach to uke playing arose.

If you want to apply violin fingering to a plucked instrument, mandolin or tenor banjo seem better suited to the task.
