Thread Name: 2018 Obit: Carolyn Terry - Houston Texas.
Subject: Obit: Carolyn Terry - Houston Texas.
It is with great sadness that I note the passing
of Carolyn Terry of Houston, Texas. An important
and much loved figure on the Houston music and arts
scene since at least the 1960's.
Carolyn was a folksinger, artist, film maker,
teacher, radio personality, reviewer of music,
film and art, active in the Orange Show.

She suffered a stroke early in September,
was hospitalized then released to hospice care.
Her death occurred Sunday evening, September 16, 2018.
She is survived by a sister, son, grandchild and
former husband.
She will be missed by her many friends and family
to whom I send my heartfelt condolences.

I met Carolyn during my years working on Project
Apollo (mid-late 1960's). Our lives coincided for
a few years, but we kept in touch over the years.
During those years in Houston I heard her many times
at Sand Mountain coffeehouse where many of the Houston
and Texas folk and singer-songwriters performed, including
the legendary Frank Davis and his Daddy Banjo, Don
Sanders and others.
We shared an interest in film - the 60's was a great
era for new wave and other creative movements, she
introduced me to "underground" film. We shared
the weekend at the Woodstock festival. I got to
meet Johnny Winter at Fillmore East - Carolyn being
among his Austin (TX) comrades. At this time Johnny
Winter had achieved "super" stardom - I had met
him (a brief handshake and greeting) prior to this
in Houston at the ACA studio when we had completed
a session with Juke Boy Bonner for Blues Unlimited,
and Winter was arriving for his session.
I have many wonderful memories of Carolyn which cheer
me in this time of sadness.
Dear friend, rest in peace.

Thomas.
