Be careful picking your fungi. All sorts of bad things can happen to the unknowing. I once picked a morel-like mushroom with what looked like tar on it while waiting for my mother to pick me up from work. It was stinkhorn (Phallus impudicus and P. Hadriani are commonest) and we drove home with the fungus being held outside the window. I put it in a tightly-lidded jar and brought it to my botany teacher the next day. He didn't open the jar, but did say, "Stinks like a dead horse, doesn't it?" I gave it to him.

These are edible, if you really want to eat them.
