At about 11:15 AM Pacific Time today, my cell phone started buzzing. A white box with the following message flashed on the screen:

Presidential Alert THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.

My wife said, "Joe, is this 1984? Somehow, this does not make me feel more secure." My sentiments exactly.
