Subject: RE: BS: Kavan ugh Investigation and Confirm?
There's a big shadow over this fellow, though the crux is, at present, that he hasn't been convicted of anything. I'm trying to imagine what might have happened on this side of the pond. The shadow over him would surely have stayed the hand of the prime minister, who would not have relished the ensuing outcry had he been appointed. What evidence there is against him would have been assessed by the Crown Prosecution Service to see if there was a case to answer, or whether there was a reasonable prospect of conviction. While that was going on I can't see how he could have been appointed. Finally, I think that people of integrity under the pressure he's enduring would have gracefully stepped away from being considered for the job. He hasn't shown the grace or integrity to do that and he's also said some stupid things. Over here, he simply wouldn't have got the job. He's badly flawed, guilty or not. As a senior judge he should know a damn sight better. Bit late, I suppose.
