I am not quite sure what RTE is trying to do with this.

I always felt Ireland maintained a distinction between the terms 'traditional' and 'folk' music. The selection of nominees seems to blur the line between the two to a great extend.

FWIW, there is already a longstanding, and reasonably highly regarded, award scheme for traditional music, the Gradam Ceoil. Some of the nominees for the 'folk' award would be more at home there.

The whole thing seems confused.
