Thread Name: Origins: Was there really a train 'Lonesome Pine'
Subject: ADD: Trail of the Lonesome Pine(MacDonald/Carroll)
Here's my transcription of a live 1957 recording by a very young Brenda Lee and Rex Allen. I recognized this song the moment I heard the first line. It must have had a lot of airplay when I was growing up.

THE TRAIL OF THE LONESOME PINE
(Ballard Mac Donald / Harry Carroll)

In the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia,
On the trail of the lonesome pine—
In the pale moonshine our hearts entwine,
Where she carved her name and I carved mine.

Oh, June, like the mountains I'm blue—
Like the pine I am lonesome for you,
In the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia,
On the trail of the lonesome pine.

Songwriters: Ballard MacDonald / Harry Carroll
