Since when was Das Boot a television series? The one I saw is a German film made for the cinema by Wolfgang Petersen in 1981. Real submariners (and I know some) say it is more than a little too true to life as they knew it in diesel-electric boats.

Oh, I see. It's a remake -- but no! A sequel! This time, with the story extended to include the submariners' female relatives. Because God forbid we should ever have a drama without a "love interest".

The Guardian's reviewer says that Das Boot was not a film that was crying out for a remake, even a good one. I'm with him.
