Effectively the UK left the Commonwealth years ago. Its member nations have much stronger links with each other than they do with a "mother country" whose main aim is to deport as many foreigners as possible no matter what the cost, and Commonwealth citizens in particular.

There shouldn't be any problem with Ireland joining the Commonwealth as well as the EU.
