Thread Name: ADD: One for Rook, one for crow (Guist Ploughman)
Subject: RE: Req: One for Rook, one for crow (Guist Ploughman)
The rhyme is older than anyone here has suggested; in the early 18th century Virginia it was: 'One for the Blackbird, one for the Crow, one for the Cutworm, and one to grow'. I surmise it predates the colonial period here, and that it is fairly ancient.
