This song also featured in the live production of Edgar Lee Masters' Spoon River Anthology, which I remember seeing as a high school student when the national touring company came to our city. We'd studied the poems in drama class, and later performed our own version of the play, complete with music (and very good those kids were, too). I seem to recall that this song opens the first scene.
