A couple of additions. The candle factory opposite the Nag's Head was called Price's Candles, I used to drive past it every day en route to work in Battersea.
On the subject of jug bands, I note Terry Silver mentioned the Philharmonious, in which my old mate Pete Ballan played, he's still around and living in Alnwick. However the jug band I remember best from that time was the LeveƩ Breakers, with Henry VIII on jug, Mac MacCann on guitar and phono fiddle, and Beverly who later married John Martyn, on vocals. Can't remember all of the lineup sadly.
