In addition to some of the ones already posted, the version I heard as a child also had this somewhat darker verse:

I had a little monkey, and his name was Tiny Tim
I put him in the bathtub to see if he could swim
First he drank the water, then he ate the soap
He died last night with a bubble in his throat
