My initial response was to indicate that outside Scotland many would not know who Manny Singh was. On reflection that may well apply to many inside Scotland, since the (impartial) BBC gave practically no coverage to a march in Glasgow on Saturday supporting the cause of Scottish independence, despite the fact that tens of thousands participated. Manny was a key figure in organising this march under the auspices of an organisation called All Under One Banner.

The actual figure of participants is disputed, but was certainly well in excess of 50,000 and resulted in the closure of many of the busiest streets in the centre of Scotland's largest city: use your own judgement as to whether this was newsworthy.

I attended with my wife, son, daughter and grandchildren and bought a CD at a stall on Glasgow Green: an imperfect copy of the Folkways "Ding Dong Dollar" from the 1960s featuring many songs from the aforementioned Jim, which revived happy memories of the heyday of the burgeoning CND movement.
