She was one of those people you feel a connection to. I liked her movies and recordings. She really was a good interpreter of songs, and her movies were always fun. For almost ten years, my parents had a house-sitting gig every year next door to the Carmel Valley home of Terry Melcher, the only offspring Doris had. Doris lived not far away, and my folks would see her come to visit Terry - not that I ever saw her. I never saw anybody famous unless I paid admission. But anyhow, I felt a connection to Doris because my folks did house-sitting next door to her son, who had been targeted for murder by the Manson Family. So, that's my connection to Charles Manson.
But rest in peace, Doris. We all felt a connection to you, somehow. We liked that you cared for animals, and we forgot that you were a Republican.
