I think the part where it sounds odd is because it actually starts before it normally would have, with "if you'd be my dixie chicken". It steals some time from the line before.

If you slap the arm of your chair in time, your hand is actually raised for "if you'd" then down again for "be my", and "dixie land" is fairly not-weird.

If this doesn't help, I hope it at least doesn't make things worse.
