Subject: RE: BS: Closest Encounter to Death
Back around 1982, driving en route to Kinsale on a camping trip, I skidded on the grass margin of the road. I had attempted to pick up a dropped cigarette from the car floor and veered slightly, putting the left side wheels on grass. The traction of the driver side wheels put me into collision with a stone fence. The car crashed and turned several somersaults across the road and came to rest on the roof with the booth against a stone pier. I was thrown through the windscreen onto the grass margin on that side, unconscious but , apart from a torn trousers and a cut on my thigh - unmarked. I came to in a hospital, lying on a kind of daybed/trolly in a deserted room. After about a half hour I got up and, meeting no-one, walked out and hailed a taxi to complete my journey.
