Subject: RE: New Book Review: Stuart Cantle: A life in Song
Thank you so much Joe. The book is available through Amazon .com At the present it is only available in digital form. Log in to Amazon, then go to Kindle books and put Stuart Cantle: A life in Song in the search engine. You should be able to preview it before buying. You can also borrow it through Kindle Unlimited - Amazon's library service.
I met Stuart in a folk club in Shipping Sodbury - just outside Bristol, England. He sang mostly solo songs, but also in a group of 3. Stuart was expert on the songs of the American prison systems - not quite an English Alan Lomax. He also sang a wide variety of folk songs, blues, jazz, work songs and shanties.
The book is in 3 parts - a small biography section, a history of music section and then the main part is the songbook. Wherever possible I have contacted people to get permission to use the words. I have left on each song that I could get details for where I found it. There are only words here, not music.
Stuart got dementia 4 years ago, and as his memory deteriorated, he asked me to make a collection of his songs. He died in September 2018 . I showed the original song book to a publisher/folksinger, and she suggested I augmented it and here it is now.
